Roamed all over the shop tonight. From the beautiful sounds of Afxjim through some percussive jazz from ‘64 to the corn field folk of Arthur Russell and ending up with Mark Pritchard’s barnstorming tune Elephant (forthcoming on Deep Medi), it was a true mixed dozen edition of the Arctic. Nice also to explore a little more of the Now Again compilation Forge Your Own Chains, some pensive spoken word from the now still pen of David McComb, fly rhymes from metal face Doom and completely futuristic excursions from the minds of Untold and Falty DL. Joining me in the RRR studios tonight were Martin L and Rambl, both regular guests to Against The Arctic but as of this friday 4th December, they will both be fully fledged RRR announcers with the advent of their new show The City Rises whoch goes to air from 12am-2am. Inkswel will also be hosting the show but he couldn’t make it in tonight so we started off the show with a bumping tune from his recent wax museum 7″. From there Martin and Rich took the reigns until 9pm with a rough and ready taster of what you can expect on The City RIses.
In the second hour we visited some trippy disco from the Ze records stable and some great new music from Melbourne’s Richmond Lamarr, Afxjim, Super Melody, The Danimals and Seekae.

Apologies that it took so long to get this up! Technical difficulties, travel (to syd) and internet woes all combined – with a healthy dose of my own chaos – to delay this by more than a week. Nonetheless it’s here now and BOY it’s chock full of goodness. More Floating Points love courtesy of Ubiquity to start us off, some great new beats from the Frite Nite label, plus a new remix by local-lad Aoi of local-lad Qua on the single from his new album Q&A. On the same label Mush is new-skool old-local-boy Super Melody with a couple of cuts (a super-medley, if you will) off the single to his debut album Life is Like Glass which has just been released.
The second half of the show is dedicated to more electronic UK and detroit dance sounds with a few of my fave choice cuts and a visit from super UK dubstep heavy-weight Cotti who joined us in the studio, although due to a misunderstanding he didn’t show until the very end so the last 15 minutes of the show is his live mix, enjoy!

My guest tonight was Matthew Jones aka Aoi, a Melburnian who’s been slaying it of late with his hand stitched experimental hip hop beats. Crafting lo-fi samples with crunching synthesiser tones and basslines, Aoi helms it all together with great head nodding beats and a short attention span for genre making his music restless and exciting. He let loose with a 35 minute mix of mainly unreleased tracks including remixes of Qua, My Bloody Valentine, Major Lazer, Sydney’s Cleptoclectics and MF Doom.

Good to be back after a gruelling house move, thanks to Rambl for a kicking show last week while I was surrounded by boxes. So much good music, new and old this week, checked in with the latest Steppas Delight on Soul Jazz, some nice old dubby german techno, a little bit of Scientist and some Georgian religious choral music that stopped me in my tracks. Also of note is the new 2562 album on Tectonic, Inkswel’s new 7″ on local label Wax Museum and a new record from space popsters Broadcast. Dizz 1 continues to devastate as well, look out for the ep out soon on Nod Navgators.

The Kona Triangle album Sing A Sapling Into Existence was the feature of the evening and it’s funky beats and lush electronic synths carried us through new tunes from Burial and King Midas Sound doing the Hyperdub 5 thing, the silky new FaltyDL EP, the latest 7″ installment of the Beat Dimensions series, a large bracket of quick stepping funky / dubstep / grime / garage variants including some cumbia influenced jams and a sprinkling of house at the end.
